Welcome! I am Anita Woods, a Certified Professional
Midwife providing nurturing homebirth midwifery care for your body, mind &
soul. Serving both Kansas and Missouri, I have a small midwifery practice
offering a choice of prenatal care with offices in Leavenworth and Kansas City. Visits are an opportunity to relax,
sip a cup of tea, get to know one another, and develop a trusting friendship
with the personal, one-on-one continuity of care that is the hallmark of
homebirth midwifery. I have a specialty
in vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and focus on gentle, non-interventive,
parent-directed care where there are no forced testing or exams, and no time
limits for pregnancy, labor or birth for a healthy mom and baby.
Attending births since
2004, my style is a loving, attentive, “wallflower” style of midwifery, practicing
the art of invisibility at birth, respect of a mother’s space, and the use of
natural, non-allopathic remedies for health & healing. I am certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and
am a 2007 graduate of Ancient Art Midwifery Institute which focuses
specifically in training only out-of-hospital midwives. I have served as a Christian midwife in
missions work in the Philippines and am the former president of the
International Cesarean Awareness Network.

Due to moving around, I've had 3 midwives in different states. Anita has not only become my favorite midwife, but she's also become a good friend. I love the fact that when I go to my prenatal appointments it feels like I am visiting a friend rather than my midwife. However, that doesn't mean she isn't professional; she most certainly is!! It was truly a blessing to have Anita be a part of my first homebirth experience. My daugher and I were in very capable hands. Her presence is one of a calm strength, confident in her abilities, yet carrying a very gentle spirit. It is just perfect for what a mother giving birth needs! If we decide have another child I wouldn't have it any other way than to have Anita there!

Anita is an amazing midwife. I have been a doula for some of her clients and just love the care that she gives. She is professional, and personable. Knowledgeable, and non medical. Trusting of birth and women's bodies, yet uses wisdom and skill. I especially love to watch her give newborn exams as she is so gentle and loving to precious new babes! I want to be pregnant again just so I can be cared for by Anita!

I was so grateful and relieved when Anita agreed to attend the birth of our last child. My birthing needs changed drastically during my last trimester and she agreed to help out during a time that I really needed someone. She was calm, reassuring, and knowledgeable and we felt so blessed to have her as our midwife!
